Thought for the month....
July
Living has become expensive and can be difficult, causing worry, heartache, and grief. For some, life is tragically shortened by illness, cruelly lost in violence and catastrophically in war. Sadly, and daily, we read and hear of people of all ages having their lives cut short.
Life can be so uncertain. People do make plans, not knowing what the future will bring.
Do you ever give any thought about what happens after your time on earth has ended ?
Jesus told a parable, and it is recorded in the Bible in Luke’s Gospel.
“The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?”
Chapter 12:16 -20
We read in the Bible
” Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
James 4:14.
There is a way to have everlasting life in Heaven, it’s free and available to all who put their trust in the Lord Jesus by believing in Him, confessing their sin, and turning to Him for their salvation. The New Testament has the verse
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23.
Although salvation if a gift to all who believe, it came at a great cost to God and the Lord Jesus Christ. It was all borne out of love. John wrote in his gospel
“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3 v 16.
The Lord Jesus was and still is the sinless son of God, and when He died on that cruel cross at Calvary, He took upon himself the sin of the whole world. By doing this He has made way for all to be forgiven of their sins and made it possible for all to spend eternity in Heaven.
In order to avail yourself of this everlasting life you need to take this free gift of salvation by believing in Him.
The scripture from Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” makes it clear that eternal life is by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our own efforts or works of obedience. We see the words
”Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth”.
Proverbs 27:1
A future life in Heaven can be a certainty now, while living here on earth.
Why not give these things some consideration and be sure to accept this wonderful gift of everlasting life by putting your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ? You will then have peace with God and life for eternity.
