Thought for the month....

January

A new year always brings a sense of hope for the future. The past year with its troubles, stresses, failures and grief is behind us. There were no doubt good times too but it always seems like the negative memories come to mind easier than the good ones.

The new year presents us with a clean slate, a blank page waiting for a new chapter to be written, and that is what gives us hope. We can imagine the year ahead full of possibilities, happiness and successes.

But will this new year be a happy one?

The sun has set on 2021 and has risen on 2022 but the story of this year has yet to be written. After the past two years of uncertainty with Coronavirus, people all across the nation and around the globe are hoping that better things lie ahead.

While we can all be hopeful, the future still remains uncertain. If we have learned anything over the past two years it’s that we should expect the unexpected.

Only God knows what the future holds.

I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done.

Isaiah 46:9-10

God is omniscient, He knows everything including what will happen in our lives this year. We can make plans for 2022 but only God knows if those plans will get lived out. Of course that shouldn’t stop us having a positive outlook on life. God truly only wants the best for us and has made it possible through his Son that we might have the very best future possible.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17

As we put the old year behind us and move forward into a new year, why not put your old life and your sins behind you and become a new creation in Jesus Christ? He died on the cross and took upon himself the punishment for our sins that we might be saved from eternal suffering.

For those who believe on Jesus Christ the future is bright, not only for the year ahead but for all eternity. No matter what we may face during our lives here on earth we can always be assured of eternal peace and happiness with the Saviour.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 3:36

Perhaps this New Year could be a time of positive spiritual change for many people by accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts and lives.
