Thought for the month....
August
August means many different things to many different people.
To some it's time off school and summer holidays, to others warm sunny days outside, for farmers it means harvest.
Farmers have waited many months watching their crops weather the cold, the heat, the wet and dry times all for the hope that there will be a bountiful harvest.
They have put effort into cultivating, planting, fertilising and spraying crops so that they can grow well.
During the month of August they will be at work all day and sometimes late into the night to gather their crops before it's too late.
Yet when the crops are gathered there may be weeds growing within which not only reduce the yield but also means that the farmer will need to separate the weeds from the grain.
Parables of the sower and reaper are used in the Bible to represent God and mankind.
God watches us grow and seeks to nurture us into something that is fruitful and productive for Him. He sent Jesus Christ down to earth to sow the word of truth and provide a way of salvation for mankind. Christians like sowers spread the message of the gospel hoping that the Word will take root in someone's heart.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:9
In the Parables, mankind is pictured as the plants ready to harvest; taking root either providing a plentiful harvest, stunted of growth or withered and dead. Those who don’t believe are described as weeds or tares.
It is up to us whether we believe in Jesus Christ, take him as our Saviour, begin a new life through Him and begin to grow in Him.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Matthew 13:23
At some point God will be ready to harvest. When this will happen, we don’t know, but Jesus Christ will take and preserve those who have put their trust in him. Those left because of their unbelief and rejection of Him will be judged.
When Jesus comes to the harvest, will you be someone for him or someone that has rejected Him and await the judgement of God to come.
May you not get to the point whereby you will say;
"The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved."
Jeremiah 5:20
Trust in him today before it's too late.
